Vector Graphics - Art of Vector and Vectorize ector graphics is a way to use points, lines, curves and shapes to generate images on a computer. The art of vector graphics has touched every imaginable application from military defense systems to air traffic control systems to digital photography systems.
Computer graphics pioneer, Ivan Sutherland, used vector graphics to run his Sketchpad program in 1963. Since then, the applications have been myriad, from video games such as Space Invaders and Asteroids all the way through multimedia, 3D modeling and laser light shows. Vector graphics are ideal for drawings and are being used by desktop artists as well as world-class photographers. This technology allows printers to take the same vector logo on a business card and simply enlarge it to fit other formats such as billboards. 3D modeling is now commonplace in applications ranging from architecture to military operations. The SVG (Scalable vector Graphics) format is an open standard created by the World Wide Web Consortium to provide a multipurpose vector format for the entire Internet. VML (Microsoft) and SWF (Adobe) work along the same general lines. It is now possible for anyone with Internet access to obtain free graphics and use them for their own purpose. Websites, blog sites, and chat rooms have grown around these applications as amateur artists seek to harness this powerful new media. The possibilities are wide open for artists, marketers, engineers and idealists of every stripe to carry this technology further and create new art forms. Programs such as CorelDraw and Adobe Illustrator to name just two allow a user to create graphics to fit their needs. Shockwave’s flash product among others allows the artist to turn two-dimensional graphics into 3D animation that can be sent to an end user and animated in route. Amazing possibilities avail themselves to the creative person with these options. It boggles the mind to think that a century ago ninety-five percent of all Americans were born in their homes and today I can press a button and send these words to every corner of the earth. Where will we be in another one hundred years?
